Yesterday evening we strolled the numerous illuminated streets of New Orleans, interesting sights to say the least some unslightly! Bars line most of the streets, most of which have live bands playing all different styles of music not just jazz. Most of the restaurants that we saw had similar menus including po-boy, gumbo, jambalaya none of which after two days in New Orleans I would recommed. I could really do with some fresh vegetables and/or fruit not fussy either will do!
So for breakfast this morning we were both thinking along the lines of "as healthy as possible". We turned down a few restaurants to find the healthiest breakfast. I ordered eggs benedict and Daire ordered aligator sausage, grits and homefries, well ok then I was thinking of the healthy breakfast, below is what we got. I couldn't eat all day after as a result.
Prior to leaving Ireland we were looking at going on a swamp tour here in New Orleans, there are numerous companies offering these tours. There is the slow 10mph boat and the 60mph airboat a difference of $40 per person for the faster boat and needless to say we were booked onto the airboat. An aircraft flying at 120 knots is obviously not good enough for some!
The bus arrived to pick us up at our hotel and one hour and 20 minutes later we arrived at the swamp after passing our hotel three times between collections and drop-offs.

The Irish weather obvioulsy followed us as its been raining on and off since we arrived so there were nearly tears (and not mine) when the airboat was cancelled as lightning was forecast and those boats seemingly draw electric charge. The only option was to go on the slow boat, safety first!

The tour was fun though, they call the aligators using the French language in loud tones! Interesting but it worked three aligators immediately started swimming towards the boat, the guide then opens the door lies on his tummy, leans out and feeds them raw chicken and marshmallows! Yes you read it correctly and seemingly they prefer the marshmallows!! See pics below for proof.
