Left San Antonio this morning, wish we had more time there as it is a lovely city but have to push on as my budget plans rely on me doubling my money in Vegas so have to get there quick. Weather was beautiful this morning not a cloud in the sky as we left which made a nice change.
If you squint you can make out San Antonio in the picture below.
Some views on the journey to Pecos.
Bit of a cloud build-up below us on the way but fortunately they didn't stay too long.
Landed in Pecos Texas for lunch. A few army helicopters had arrived before us and they had taken all the free burritos on offer so we were given a car to head to downtown Pecos for lunch.
Pecos home to the worlds first rodeo.
Downtown we found the West of the Pecos Museum. Its an old western hotel and a saloon containing bullet holes from a gunfight that left two dead.
Me ordering a drink at the bar. The hat's a bit small must have belonged to a little Mexican.
Got back in the air a little late after our extended lunch and headed for El Paso.
Unfortunately this time of the day wasn't the best for heading into the hills so after a bumpy 60 miles we decided to land for the night in Culberson County Airport in Van Horn Texas.
We arrived to an empty office in Culberson but found a phone and a phone book and started looking for a hotel number. Spoiled with options we rang the EconoLodge and once again we were treated to some southern hospitality when the owner of the hotel came to collect us at the airport as there are no taxis in Van Horn.
Another early start tomorrow as we see how close to Vegas we can get.
Some pics of Van Horn
Hi, amazing you can land in a small airport anywhere in America now and "no one at home". Did you have to get clearance to land? Photos great, glad you decided to land after that 60 mile bumpy journey. Hope the clear skies continue for you both. Love Barbara

ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky to be seeing those parts of America. You seem to be on track time wise, following you on the map as well. Grace can manage the computer to look at your pictures but loves the one of the two of you in the plane, thinks its really funny. MAm
